Focus group on PR4 - German sector needs
The online event, organized by UHOH on May 15, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, brought together 13 participants, including 9 external to UHOH. Attendees came from diverse fields: one farmer and technology developer, three distributors and manufacturers of agricultural machinery, two technology developers and data providers, and four professors and doctoral students. The goal was to discuss the skills needed in precision agriculture and anticipate future developments in Germany.
The session began with a presentation of the LATEST project and the results of the PR4 survey. Each participant introduced themselves, followed by an explanation of the simulation game rules. Participants were then split into two groups for discussion: one group raised concerns about the relevance of the results, noting a lack of digital knowledge among farmers, especially part-time farmers, who are often undertrained in digital tools. The other group understood the explanations well and did not express concerns about the PR4 results.
The event was considered highly valuable by participants, thanks to the diversity of profiles. Interdisciplinary discussions allowed for exploring various perspectives and opening new avenues for thought. The moderators noted active participation and constructive exchanges, although maintaining a balance between moderation and participation was sometimes challenging. Digital tools effectively supported the discussions.
